Have you just been diagnosed as coeliac or advised to follow a gluten free diet?

We understand how overwhelming it can be.

We have put together a starter pack with a variety of our breads so that you can try each one of them and decide which one you like the best.

As coeliacs we really missed bread and for many years we went without, as the bread on offer was highly processed, full of chemicals and preservatives and didn't do the job for us at all. That's how The Bakery started!

We are a 100% gluten free bakery & a family business too - three coeliacs!  We specialise in real gluten free bread using only naturally gluten free ingredients.  We do not not use any chemicals, preservatives or processed gums.  We are proud to be members of the Real Bread Campaign

We make bread in the traditional way but adapted for the lack of gluten!

Even so, it does all come down to personal taste so we have our starter pack so you can taste each variety of bread.

Which one will be your favourite?

Our starter pack is discounted by 20% and includes six loaves.

We bake & dispatch fresh so you can freeze fresh.  Instructions and handy tips on storing & freezing your bread is included in your starter kit.

Plain sourdough

Our sourdough is made from just flour, salt, water and seeds.  Wild yeasts and a long fermentation does the hard work instead of bakers yeast and it's this long ferment that also gives the bread is unique texture & incredible taste.

We have our very own unique gluten free sourdough starter and flour blend that creates our Knife & Fork gluten free sourdough loaves.

This loaf has a tangy sour taste and a nice open texture. You may find sourdough mildly addictive and then just like me - one piece of this toast is never enough!

This is our original sourdough loaf in it's traditional free form shape.  Each loaf is the same size but there are never two the same.

We recommend that this is best eaten toasted.

Ingredients: sorghum flour, buckwheat flour, millet flour, maize flour, potato flour, rice flour, psyllium husk, flaxseed, salt.

Vegan

Allergens:

Rosemary Focaccia

Our focaccia has a light texture and is perfect to enjoy as part of a meal, to dip in olive oil & balsamic vinegar or even split a square of it and toast it like a panini!

It's made from our very own focaccia flour mix, fresh rosemary, lots of olive oil & Maldon sea salt.

We bake it in its own little wooden tray, which makes it really easy to refresh.

Place it on an oven tray & give it a good splash of water & then pop it into a hot oven ( 180-200c) for 10 to 15 minutes.  Do keep an eye on it though as all ovens vary.  It should be moist and soft inside with a crusty exterior. (Instructions on the packaging).

There's no need to re-heat all of it at once though - you can portion it & freeze it too.

This freezes really well - up to 3 months.

Ingredients:

Rice flour, potato flour, tapioca flour, psyllium, yeast, olive oil, milk, eggs, rosemary, salt.

Allergens:

Egg, milk

Farmhouse sandwich loaf

Lighter in colour and flavour this is like a farmhouse ‘white’ loaf.  We still use wholegrain flours to make our own flour blend for this loaf so it’s not white but it’s most probably the nearest we will make - it is delicious and nutritious!

This one reminds me of the old fashioned ‘white’ loaves my mum would buy from the village bakery.  Delicious lightly toasted, slathered with butter or in sandwiches too – a great all - rounder.

It's a good one to try for young children too.

Ingredients:  millet flour, sorghum flour, buckwheat flour, maize flour, potato flour, fresh yeast, psyllium, flaxseed, salt.

Seedy Quinoa sandwich loaf

A seedy tasty sandwich loaf; our award winning quinoa millet loaf with added flavour from our multi seed mix.

This is made with our own quinoa and millet flour blend and fresh bakers yeast. It's incredibly popular with all the family - a great all rounder.

Ingredients: quinoa flour, millet flour, sorghum flour, teff flour, fresh yeast, psyllium, flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, salt.

 Cinnamon & Date Loaf

A delicious cinnamon and date loaf  to be enjoyed as a tea bread or toasted.

Naturally sweet from the dates and cinnamon, it has no added sugar so a real treat. Enjoy for breakfast, tea time or any time!

Ingredients:  millet flour, sorghum flour, buckwheat flour, maize flour, potato flour, dates, rice flour, cinnamon, fresh yeast, psyllium, flaxseed, salt.

Buckwheat & poppyseed sandwich loaf

Made from our own buckwheat & teff flour blend & fresh bakers yeast, this loaf is incredibly tasty with almost a nutty flavour and a very attractive malty colour.

This bread definitely stands up on it's own when it comes to flavour - fabulous for open sandwiches, great for toast or just a plain ol' sandwich.

Fabulous finely sliced for smoked salmon sandwiches or thickly cut cheddar & chutney doorstoppers - whatever suits your mood. Toasted & slathered with far too much butter is always a winner too.   Sometimes the simplest things are the best...

An incredibly popular loaf.

Ingredients:

Buckwheat, sorghum, white teff, brown teff, quinoa, flaxseed, psyllium, fresh yeast, salt.

So disappointing

Haven't tried the focaccia yet, and am still hoping that one lives up to my expectations, but extremely disappointed with the other loaves I ordered (choc/hazelnut, Christmas, cinnamon/date). From the reviews I'd read I was expecting great things but this bread really reminded me of very early gluten-free loaves - they taste what I call 'worthy' - they don't taste like bread at all. And they don't toast well either. They're in my freezer but tbh I may just bin them as I really don't want another slice. Sadly, for me, a waste of money. Much prefer my usual Schär wholesome seeded loaves.

Very nice.

Would love just a little bit more date.

Excellent Focaccia

Knife and Fork Bakery loaves taste great, I haven't had one I didn't like yet, yes, it is very pricey and I can't afford to eat it every day, but I buy when I can.

The first time I purchased, I was a little disappointed as, like others, I hoped/expected it would be like regular bread, it is not and I've not found any gluten free loaf that comes near the artisan bread I used to eat before I had to give up gluten.

So put aside that expectation, so far, all gluten free artisan bread that I've tried, has been dense and hard by comparison, excluding supermarket bread, which is blown up and stuffed with additives. Try this with an open mind and concentrate on the crunchy toast it makes and on the flavours.

I love the sourdough toasted with cheese, all of this bread, in my opinion is better toasted, I don't like it fresh at all, I'm afraid I still prefer the supermarket stuff for a sandwich. You can't beat it for toast though, the flavours are really good, especially the Christmas loaf, that's wonderful, it toasts lovely and pairs really nicely with my homemade whisky marmalade. Cinnamon date is wonderful too, I like that with a little fig jam, yum! They're not too sweet either, that's another issue with supermarket breads, always sugar in it, whether sweet or savoury and the sweet ones are sickly.

Lastly, don't try and slice these loaves thin, it's inclined to crumble, some more than others. I like mine quite thick and two small, but chunky slices, make me a great breakfast. It all freezes great and lasts me for months. I was supposed to review the rosemary focaccia, but that has enough 5 star reviews, it doesn't need another one!

Nice

The buckwheat and poppy seeds load is a nice bread, slices very well and toasts very well. Of all the Knife & Fork bread, this is the only bread that toasts like the gluten sliced bread and gives the same crunchy bite.
The sourdough can also be a nice addition to your orders. It has a tang to it.
I had also ordered most recently the season's Christmas loaf which has the same base but was described to have raisins, crystallised ginger and walnuts. This loaf was tasteless and poor with the described ingredients. It had no ginger (AT ALL), a couple of walnuts with a few raisins, which is a shame, really,
The cinnamon and dates loaf, which is a fixture, and my favourite, could use of a bit more cinnamon in it. There is no consistency whats over. Its taste changes with every order as the flavouring ingredients at times are almost non existent. If the bread is advertised as "cinnamon and date", one has to be able to taste these ingredients.
Overall, the loaves are GF with some nice and high quality flours mixtures. They are not to be compared with commercial GF breads, they are different. They all slice well and freeze well.
The baker/owner should stick to a one nice recipe for the flavoured breads and should add enough of the described/listed ingredients. Otherwise, it is a disappointment for the clients and also too much to sell them at £6.85.

Gluten Free Bread worthy of only 1 Star.

I was so excited to receive my Gluten Free Starter Pack of bread. Unfortunately the pleasure soon ended when I received my 6 loaves. While each loaf looked lovely they were unbelievably hard and several loaves crumbled when cut. After reading the reviews my expectations were high and I was looking forward to tasting bread like I had never tasted before. That was true but for the wrong reasons. All in all, extremely disappointing, very poor quality and clearly not worth the high price paid. The search for the best GF bread continues meanwhile it’s back to the good old supermarket bread.

Love this bread

I now order bread from this bakery regularly. I make sure I never run out. I like variety so tend to change up the loaves I get but the Seedy Sourdough is one of mu absolute favourites, I nearly always get it. It tastes great with sweet or savoury toppings or dunked into soup. It's great to know that it doesn't only taste good but is completely UPF free and really good for you.

Large plain sliced sourdough

Absolutely delicious GF bread, well recommended! Very pleased that I have found you, thank you!

Delicious

I can just about remember eating 'real' bread with gluten and it didn't taste as good as this! Freezes very well and reheats to good as new. Well worth the price

Excellent bread. Totally suits me, my health/gut/digestion needs as well as being delicious.

I love this bread so much I asked to change my regular order to include more of it…unfortunately that’s not happened yet. I have emailed the bakery to bring it to their attention, but am still waiting to hear back. I presume the Xmas rush is delaying matters but I do hope to get a reply soon. Thanks for making fantastic bread! Kindly, Shelley 🤗 🎄

A Delightful Treat

What a delightful winter combination - stem ginger, walnut and raisin. It's a wonderful Christmas treat for those who avoid gluten and want something as near to 'real bread' as possible. It ticks all the boxes for taste and consistency.

Fantastic Bread.

Exactly what we've been lookng for, thank you.
